5 Best Strains to Dabble in Dabs

By Carolyn Lipka on July 30, 2017

As concentrates and oils have grown more popular, your options are seemingly endless. Here are some of my favorite strains to smoke as oil or wax, perfect for everything from a first time dabber to an experienced vaper.

Candyland

If you haven’t smoked shatter before and are looking for a smooth, sweet hit with a heady high that translates flawlessly from its flower, look no further than Candyland. A sativa-dominant hybrid, Candyland’s stimulating and energetic effects translate well to a dab that usually runs the risk of tiring you out quickly. Candyland is the perfect introductory oil for any first time dabbers.

Jillybean

Jillybean is not only one of the best tasting strains to smoke when in flower form, it also retains its signature creamy fruity taste when converted into a concentrate. Even though it’s known for its great smell and orange-heavy flavor, the strain itself offers a happy and mellow high. It's perfect for the social daytime smoker. This hybrid strain is borne of the creamsicle tasting Orange Velvet and the intense, heady Space Queen, and it carries with it all of the aspects that make those strains recognizable to regular users. I would recommend Jillybean for daytime use for an experienced dabber.

Sour Diesel

Sour Diesel is one of my favorite heady, strong, cerebral highs that acts fast and lasts for a long time. While smoking too much of this may lead to anxiety, a small amount goes a long way, and for experienced smokers, it gives you the perfect nighttime high—a little sleepy but mostly calming and stress relieving. It’s impossible to talk about sour diesel without bringing up the smell, but with concentrate versions of the strain, the pungent almost gas-like aroma is subdued while the effects of the strain are maintained.

Lemon Walker OG

Even though this hybrid won second place at the 2014 Denver Cannabis Cup, it’s first place in my heart as my favorite indica-heavy strain concentrate. Another cerebral high, Lemon Walker lives up to its name as it emits a citrusy aroma and tastes like candied lemons. Lemon Walker OG is less heady and sleepy than Sour Diesel and is perfect for a daytime toke.

Sour Tsunami

I would be remiss in making a list of the best strains to smoke as oils or concentrates without giving you my favorite CBD options. While I personally prefer CBD in branded, pre-loaded cartridges, Sour Tsunami gives my pens a run for their money. I love Sour Tsunami because it has some of the heady qualities of its parent strain Sour Diesel (whose merits I have just delineated) but is primarily a CBD strain, so it also provides all the pain relief of a pen with some of the high of a traditional indica. I would recommend this strain for you if you’re experiencing mild discomfort like nausea or period cramps.
