Evil Bong Actor Mocks Ted Cruz in Linklater-Directed Ad

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused) directed this new political ad featuring actor-singer Sonny Carl Davis, whose big-screen credits include Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Thelma & Louise and the Evil Bong series. In his latest work, Davis mocks Ted Cruz's campaign slogan "Tough As Texas."

"I mean come on, if somebody called my wife a dog and said my daddy was in on the Kennedy assassination, I wouldn't be kissing their ass," says the feisty Texan in the online ad. "You stick a finger in their chest and give 'em a few choice words. Or you drag their ass out by the woodshed and kick their ass, Ted. Come on, Ted."

Texas-tough Ted, who was born Rafael Cruz in Canada and later co-opted Joseph McCarthy's look, faces El Paso-born Beto O'Rourke in the midterm elections. Beto, who previously had a band with vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala (At the Drive-In, Mars Volta), is a NORML-endorsed House member fighting to decriminalize cannabis.
