There was a time when Balmain was an elevated, almost untouchable, French fashion house. It was founded in 1945 and made Oscar de la Renta its head designer for more than a decade. While Balmain is still technically French, times have changed. In recent years, the brand that put the bedazzled, power-shouldered mini-dress back on the map has released with H&M and made its name almost synonymous with the Kardashians.
Enter Balmain’s latest of-the-moment collaboration, one that puts them in the company of Alexander Wang: a limited-edition duo of headphones for Beats by Dre. They are gold, they are luxe and they will set you back at least $250, which is kind of less than you’d expect, considering their moto jeans are in the $1,500 range. That’s for the Powerbeats 3 Wireless earbuds; the cozier, cushier Beats Studio Wireless headphones go for $600. Both offer 12-hour battery life (rechargeable, obviously) and come with a plush suede carrying case. Available in two colorways, safari and khaki, they’re inspired by a “dreamlike urban safari,” whatever that means, and they’re pretty easy on the eyes (and ears). Just look at Kylie Jenner, the face of the collection, sporting hers! Admit it: You want a pair.
