Upper thigh-skimming baby doll dresses. Fuzzy leopard-spotted fake fur. Allover skintight lace. Bodysuits, lots of bodysuits. Fishnets with everything. Doily-lace collars that speak of innocence and slinky satin slips that don’t. If you’ve forgotten these items were once, roughly two decades ago, synonymous with the name Courtney Love, then it’s a good thing the woman herself, and Nasty Gal, are back for a second collaboration. The first one, a collection of 18 grunge-inspired pieces, featured a number of nearly instant sell-outs. This time, it’s all in the name of the warm and giving holiday spirit.
After the success of the first release, which is only natural considering Nasty Gal’s nostalgia-smitten, “wear it to get noticed” demographic, Love had the urge to up the ante with some “Moulin Rouge fantasy pieces that are kind of over the top.” But she still referred to her own closet, past and present, for reference, brought to life in the form of a hand-beaded maxi dress, pussy-bow blouses with more of a pirate than ladies-who-lunch vibe, and, of course, embellished bodysuits of which Love says: “I’m a fiend for bodysuits.” She also told Vogue.com, “You don’t just relate to me in 1994, you know what I mean? These are clothes that I would wear! I’m all about, ‘If you got it, flaunt.’” Agreed.
Available November 3 at Nasty Gal.
