Buying gifts for a white Christmas at a Black Friday sale is so 2015. This year, go green all the way with the limited-edition Jazz Dispensary release Holiday Treats. The vinyl-only compilation debuted today as an exclusive Record Store Day Black Friday sales event, and only 1,500 copies were pressed.
Holiday Treats, the follow-up to April’s four-LP Jazz Dispensary: Cosmic Stash, features 10 Christmas jazz classics pressed on candy-red vinyl with a medicated gummy-themed album cover. Tracks include Booker T. & the MGs’ “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” Electric Jungle’s “Funky Funky Christmas,” The Jive Turkeys’ “Get Down Santa” and “Pueblito de Belem” by Mexican jazz organist Juan Torres.
Keeping with the cannabis dispensary theme, Holiday Treats also features Rotary Connection’s stoned-Santa classic “Peace at Last.” The lyrics include, “Why does Santa come down the chimney / If he were cool he would come through the door / But I know why / The kid is high / Look at him, he’s stoned / He’s stoned out of his mind.” This track might just explain how grandma got run over by that reindeer. The Chicago-based band, which backed up Muddy Waters’ on his 1968 album Electric Mud, released this holiday classic that same year.
Holiday Treats is available at independent record stores for $24.98.
