Even in 2018, the jaded age of oversharing when nothing is sacred—and why should anything be?—the word “sex” emblazoned on an accessory feels subversive. It’s loaded and it always will be. It’s also gratuitous, sure, but so is any logo pushed into plain sight. Conveniently, the word just happens to be the name of a skateboard brand that’s hard not to notice.
Sex Skateboards was founded by skater-turned-artist Louis Slater in August 2016 (growing up, he had always “wanted to paint on T-shirts and skateboards”) and is based in the United Kingdom. It’s not surprising Slater is inspired by bands like the Sex Pistols and anyone who’s “doing new things their own way and not giving a fuck about anyone else’s opinions or judgements.” While there’s nothing new about sex itself, this latest collaboration marks something fresh and more feminine for the label.
Teaming up with Lebanese fashion house Sarah’s Bag, designed by Sarah Beydoun and known for whimsical hand-crafted pieces, Louis and his team have created a sexed-up shoulder bag as practical as it is seductive. Structured black leather is the palette for a panel of canvas spotlighting Sex Skateboard’s lippy logo. The collaboration also offers a clutch version, fashioned to look like an oversized pill for $1,030 because sex and drugs are a timelessly winning combination.
Available at Hypebeast for $535.
