Musical Youth - "Pass the Dutchie"

In the fall of 1982, the British reggae band Musical Youth dropped its quintessential hit, “Pass the Dutchie,” topping the U.K. Singles Chart and becoming of the first black group on MTV, even preceding future MTV icons like Prince and Michael Jackson. The socio-politically charged song channels the Mighty Diamonds’ “Pass the Koutchie,” and both Dutchie and koutchie are cannabis references.
