Ron English Debuts New Cannabis Character

By David Jenison on November 20, 2017

Ron English's TOY BOX: America in the Visuals exhibit will open next month in Los Angeles, and the 36-piece show will include the new painting shown above. Premiered here for the first time, the painting debuts a new character named Punk Skunk, a.k.a. Skunkweed, that he's introducing into his visual universe.

As part of a longer interview coming soon to PRØHBTD, English explained, "Yeah, that [character] is a collab toy I'm going to do with Wiz Khalifa. We're in negotiation, and we're trying to have it out for 4/20, but there's a giant painting of that in the show. He's doing a video game, and maybe that character will be in the video game. We're just kinda playing around. I've been looking to do more things with other people, more collaboration-type projects. I made that pitch to him because he's kinda the weed dude."

TOY BOX opens December 2 at Corey Helford Gallery downtown and runs through December 30. The exhibit will also feature a pop-up toy store.
