Maryland-raised IDK is the thinking person’s rapper, and his new video “Digital” shows just how powerful a voice he can be. The four-minute video calls attention to institutionalized racism with a split-screen narrative that contrasts the reality of most young African-Americans with the paradigm through which many outsiders perceive them. IDK (Ignorantly Delivering Knowledge) directed the video himself, and he further emphasized the cultural contrast by shooting it in black and white. The acclaimed indie artist has an impressive back catalog with songs like “Trigger Happy” and “Pizza Shop,” but he’s indie no more thanks to a new joint venture between his label Clue and Warner Records. “Digital” previews his forthcoming album, Is He Real, which will drop later this year as the first release through the new partnership.
